Summary Lists

Content Summary List templates are excellent options for providing visitors with brief overviews of content on other pages through using a more "designed" element on your page.

These instructions will provide information on how to use Tridion to create and insert an organized list of summary views on your page and make the views within the list click through to the pages that contain the full view.

Creating Content Summaries

The first step in creating a Content Summary List is creating or editing the Content Items you want to link to and making sure they have all the information they need to make Summaries.

For information on creating Content Items, visit the Adding Text Content section of instructions.

For information on what you need to include in the Content Items to make a Content Summary, visit the Content Summaries instructions.

Once all of the Content Items you want to link to in the List are edited to include the information for the Summaries, make sure you save them and publish the pages they are on before you use the components.

Creating the Summary List

Now that you have created or edited your Content Components, you will need to create a List- Single Level schema item.

You will create this either from the Page or in the content folder. After specifying the parent content folder and the name of the schema item, you can add your items to the list.

Once you have added multiple Content items, you can remove them from the List using the trashcan icons or sort them by clicking and dragging the move icons.

Once you are happy with your list, click Update and you are ready to add the component to a page.

If you are in Pages, you may now Publish. If you are in the Content Folder, navigate to Pages and browse for the content to add it to the page. Then Publish.

A List-Single Level with Content Items

Inserting the Summary List on to a Page

If you’ve created the List-single level that contains the Content items in the Content Folder, you will then add it to a page.

The List Schema has been added to this page.

At this point, make sure the target pages that include the Content items you are linking to are Published and the content blocks are using the Content Full layout view.

If you edited an existing component to include the information for a summary, make sure it has been Published since you made the changes.

Summary Lists will not work unless the component is published in full elsewhere!

  1. Select one of the following layout views from the dropdown menu:

    • Content Summary List

    • Content Summary List with Overlay

    • Content Summary Multicolumn

    • Carousel of Linked Content

  1. Update the list, and you are ready to Publish.
