Announcement Article Body Content

Announcement articles support a flexible, modular body content structure, allowing editors to add, reorder, and manage a variety of content blocks. This enables calling attention to specific people, in the case of award announcements, events, for articles intended announce seminars or conferences, and other types of Beatrix content.

Key Points:

  • Announcements have the most flexibility in terms of body content.

  • Supported block types: Text, Quote, Table, Multimedia, Call to Action (CTA), People Highlight, Publication Highlight, Related Links, Related Organizations, Related Events, News Highlight.


Add Body Content Blocks

  1. Locate the Body Content section in the editor of your Announcement article.

  2. Click the Add New Section button to insert a new content block.

  3. Choose the desired block type from the menu. Each section is clearly labeled by type.

Block Types

Text

For paragraphs, headings, lists, and links.

  1. Text is the standard content section type

  2. You must have at least one Text section per article

  3. Images can no longer be inserted in text sections. To add media to your article, add an Individual Media or Media Gallery section.

Quote

For adding extra emphasis to quotes that appear in the article.

  1. Enter quote text

  2. Max 500 characters per quote.

  3. Select attribution: Yale Person, External Person, or None.

Table

For tabular data.

  • A Table Heading is required for accessibility.

  • The Table Heading can appear in the article above the table, or you can toggle it off to hide it with the Display Table Heading toggle.

  • A table will appear in the field by default. The top row is a header row to ensure accessibility, and will have slightly different formatting.

  • Use the Insert row above and similar options to add new rows or columns to your table

  • Ensure all table cells have data

    • Blank table cells and merged table cells are always accessibility issues

  • These fields appear similarly to Text sections, but only support tables

  • Only enter one table per Table section

  • Validation will ensure the table is accessible and other content is not entered outside the table

Individual Media

For images, videos, or audio.

  1. Enter or upload your content in the selected block.

  2. Repeat as needed to build out the article body.

Media Gallery

For multiple images and/or video.

  1. Select all images and/or video you want to appear in the gallery from the Media Library, or upload new ones.

  2. Add the gallery section to your article.

  3. The gallery will appear as an infinitely scrolling gallery with a progress indicator for readers to know how many items there are in the gallery.

  4. Note that audio is not permitted in galleries.

Call to Action (CTA)

  1. Insert a CTA block anywhere in the body to prompt readers to take action (e.g., register, learn more).

  2. Enter the following:

    1. Title

    2. Description (optional)

    3. Link

    4. Text for button

People Highlight

Please note as of Sep 18, 2025 there is a known issue with the “Medium” and “Large” size People Highlight layouts. The issue should be resolved within two weeks but in the meantime please just use the “Small” option.

  1. Select Layout: Choose a layout from the dropdown menu.

    1. Options:

      1. Small

      2. Medium

      3. Large

  2. Enter Title: Optionally, provide a title for the People Highlight.

  3. Add People to the People Table: Click “Add New” to add a new person to the highlight.

  4. Sort the People List: Manually sort the list in the People Table by dragging and dropping entries.

  5. Add the highlight

Publication Highlight

  1. Search: Start typing the name of the publication you want to feature

  2. Select Publication: select the publication you want to highlight from the list.

Related Links

  1. Add Title: Optionally, you may add a title which will appear as a heading above your list of links

  2. Add Links: Click “Add New” to add a link.

  3. Select Link Type: select “External Link” to link to any URL, or “Document” to add a file for readers to download.

    1. External Link: Add the Title and URL for your link

    2. Document: choose an existing file from Media Library, or click Upload Media to add a new document.

Related Organizations

  1. Add Title: add a title which will appear as a heading above your list of one or more related organizations

  2. Select Organizations:

    1. Click Add New and use the Search function to find the organization you’d like to link to.

    2. Click the plus button to add a link to that organization

    3. Repeat for as many organization as you’d like to link to

Related Events

  1. Search: Start typing the name of the event you want to feature

    1. You may also filter by event Type and/or Date.

  2. Select Event: select the event you want to add from the list.

  3. Repeat for as many events as you’d like to feature.

News Highlight

  1. Search: Start typing the name of the article you want to feature

  2. Select Article: select the article you want to highlight from the list.


Managing Content Blocks

  • Reordering: Drag and drop blocks to change their order within the article.


Using Special Fields and Features

Key Points

  • Located above the Body Content section.

  • Click Add Key Point to enter up to 5 bullet points (max 200 characters each).

  • Use for summarizing main article points (optional, but recommended).

  • Displayed in a highlighted box at the top of the article.

Listen to Article (Text-to-Speech)

  • Use the toggle to enable/disable the audio version of the article.

  • When enabled, an audio player appears at the top of the article for readers.

Display Authors

  • Use the toggle to show or hide author names on the published article.

  • Default is enabled.


Notes and Restrictions

  • CTA blocks are only available for Announcement articles.

  • Key Points are optional, limited to 5 per article, and support plain text only.

  • Tables and Quotes are optional but available.

  • Body Content is required for all Announcement articles.

  • NIH Disclaimer is required if applicable (e.g., NIH-funded research).

  • All content blocks are collapsible and moveable for flexible editing.
