Article Content
YSPH uses the block-based editor introduced in T5. This differs from the previous implementation where all content was added to one large block.
Add Body Content Blocks
Locate the Body Content section in the editor of your article.
Click the Add New Section button to insert a new content block.
Choose the block type.
Block Types
Text
For paragraphs, headings, lists, and links.
Text is the standard content section type
You must have at least one Text section per article
Images can no longer be inserted in text sections. To add media to your article, add an Individual Media or Media Gallery section.
Quote
For adding extra emphasis to quotes that appear in the article.
Enter quote text
Max 500 characters per quote.
Select attribution: Yale Person, External Person, or None.
Table
For tabular data.
A Table Heading is required for accessibility.
The Table Heading can appear in the article above the table, or you can toggle it off to hide it with the Display Table Heading toggle.
A table will appear in the field by default. The top row is a header row to ensure accessibility, and will have slightly different formatting.
Use the Insert row above and similar options to add new rows or columns to your table
Ensure all table cells have data
Blank table cells and merged table cells are always accessibility issues
These fields appear similarly to Text sections, but only support tables
Only enter one table per Table section
Validation will ensure the table is accessible and other content is not entered outside the table
Individual Media
For images, videos, or audio.
Enter or upload your content in the selected block.
Repeat as needed to build out the article body.
Media Gallery
For multiple images and/or video.
Select all images and/or video you want to appear in the gallery from the Media Library, or upload new ones.
Add the gallery section to your article.
The gallery will appear as an infinitely scrolling gallery with a progress indicator for readers to know how many items there are in the gallery.
Note that audio is not permitted in galleries.
Managing Content Blocks
Reordering
Drag and drop blocks to change their order.
You must republish for the order to update on the website.
Article Outro
In the new T5 News interface, Public Tags have been moved into the Article Outro section (near the end of the article content editor) and are now treated as part of what readers see on the live page.
Public Tags
Display at the bottom of the published article.
Are clickable, linking readers to a filtered list of articles with the same tag.
Help users explore related stories and improve site navigation.
Should be selected carefully for relevance and consistency.
Related Content
The Explore More section has been updated in T5, but functions similarly to what YSPH editors are used to, with some additional options:
Optional CTA
Add a headline, button text, and link to guide readers to a next action (e.g., register, donate, learn more).
Appears visually distinct on the article page.
Tag People
Type a name to add Yale faculty/staff.
Tagged people will have the article automatically appear on their profile page.
Their associated organizations will also be auto-suggested in the News Feeds section.
Related Links
Function the same way as before , add URLs to relevant content.
The Related Links section now includes both articles and documents.
Please make note of this change as you will be accustomed to seeing a separate “Related Documents” section.
Related Organizations
Works like related links but uses organization records already stored in Beatrix, meaning the link will automatically update if that organization’s URL changes.
Related Events
Link to upcoming events relevant to the article.
Preview & Publishing
Preview Changes in T5
Unlike the old system, previews are no longer generated automatically. You now have to explicitly publish to Preview to see how the article will look in the staging environment.
Publish to Preview:
Saves your article to the preview site so you can see how the article will look, how it will appear in listings on your preview site, and share with others (who have Yale NetID credentials) who might need to see the article before it’s published live.
Publish to Live:
Pushes your article to the live, publicly viewable site.
