Periodical Article Body Content

Periodical article body content provides a consistent reading experience while supporting core blocks like text, tables, multimedia, and pull quotes.

Key Points:

  • Supported block types: Text, Quote, Table, Multimedia.

  • Some block types (e.g., Call to Action, Events) are not available for Long Form and Short Form articles.


Add Body Content Blocks

  1. Locate the Body Content section in the editor of your Long Form or Short Form article.

  2. Click the Add New Section button to insert a new content block.

  3. Choose the block type.

Text

For paragraphs, headings, lists, and links.

  1. Text is the standard content section type

  2. You must have at least one Text section per article

  3. Images cannot be inserted in text sections. Use “Text with Image” section type to add an image.

Quote

For adding extra emphasis to quotes that appear in the article.

  1. Enter quote text

  2. Max 500 characters per quote.

  3. Select attribution: Yale Person, External Person, or None.

Q+A

Specifically used for styling individual pairs of questions and answers, which will display as an attractive and readable format in the article:

  • In Beatrix, the Q+A section behaves identically to the Text section, the main difference is how it will appear on the website.

  • An individual Q+A can be “featured” which will apply a distinct background to the question and answer, giving it enhanced visual weight over the others.

For images, videos, or audio.

  1. Enter or upload your content in the selected block.

  2. Repeat as needed to build out the article body.

For multiple images and/or video.

  1. Select all images and/or video you want to appear in the gallery from the Media Library, or upload new ones.

  2. Add the gallery section to your article.

  3. The gallery will appear as an infinitely scrolling gallery with a progress indicator for readers to know how many items there are in the gallery.

  4. Note that audio is not permitted in galleries.

For tabular data.

  • A Table Heading is required for accessibility.

  • The Table Heading can appear in the article above the table, or you can toggle it off to hide it with the Display Table Heading toggle.

  • A table will appear in the field by default. The top row is a header row to ensure accessibility, and will have slightly different formatting.

  • Use the Insert row above and similar options to add new rows or columns to your table

  • Ensure all table cells have data

    • Blank table cells and merged table cells are always accessibility issues

  • These fields appear similarly to Text sections, but only support tables

  • Only enter one table per Table section

  • Validation will ensure the table is accessible and other content is not entered outside the table

Minimum Image Dimension for all images included in a news article is 1440 X 1200
