EDIE Improvements

Based on your feedback, we’ve made many improvements to EDIE over the past several weeks:

  • Before an article is published, EDIE will not run unless you request it, which significantly reduces delays while drafting pre-live content.

    • EDIE does still run every time you edit an article AFTER it has been published live, but we are working to improve this process as well.

  • EDIE suggestions are more accurate and better aligned with Yale style: for example they now preserve named professorship titles, avoid changing the intended meaning of text, and better align with YSM’s established guidelines for numerical formatting.

  • The EDIE panel is also easier to read, with various improvements to the suggestion UI.

  • Added a “Download to Word” function to Beatrix News articles, so if you’d like Beatrix to evaluate text that is not a news article:

    • If the content is a Word document, create a new news article and use the “Import Article Text” option to upload your content.

    • Run EDIE to evaluate and edit the content in Beatrix.

    • Use the new “Download to Word” feature to get the edited text back out of Beatrix.

    • Delete the article (unless you’d like to publish it as news).

Profile Honors and Activity Data Import Tools

We have introduced new tools for faculty and those who support them to easily upload Honors and Professional Activity information from an existing faculty CV into Beatrix.

In tandem with this update, we have updated Beatrix “save” logic so you can now enter incomplete information and save it without filling in all required fields. Entries will not display on the YSM website without all required information, but this feature enables you to enter partial data in Beatrix, save it, and come back to finish it later.

To use these tools:

  1. Visit the Honors and/or Professional Activity sections of a profile

  2. Click the Import button corresponding to the type of information you want to import

  3. In the modal that appears, copy only the section of the CV that contains that kind of information (e.g. honors, speaking engagements, or services).

  4. Paste into the “Paste Text” field, and click Next Step

  5. AI will evaluate the text you pasted and split it up into individual honors, speaking engagements, etc.

  6. The information imported from the CV may not contain all fields required by Beatrix, but if so you can fill in the remaining data right then and there, or complete the import to finish later on.
