Within the Patient Care section of the Profile tab of the News and People Profile System (profile.yale.edu), you can submit and manage your YaleMedicine.org Bio

The following instructions will provide help for managing the YaleMedicine.org Bio associated with a profile.

These instructions assume you have navigated to the Patient Care section.

For information on how to navigate to the Patient Care section, please visit these instructions:

Patient Care

If you provide direct patient care and have indicated in your profile that you do (see Patient Care Settings for more information), you will have a website for your profile on the Yale Medicine website (yalemedicine.org).

Unlike the Bio on your Yale School of Medicine website (see General Information & Biography for more information), you can not simply enter or edit your Yale Medicine bio and see it appear or change on the website.

Yale Medicine Bios are written and managed by the Yale Medicine content team. However, you can give information and suggestions for your Bio through a survey in the YaleMedicine.org Bio section of the Patient Care tab.

There are 3 states for the Bio survey that will be discussed in these instructions.

  1. You just started your profile and need to enter the information in the survey so the content team can write a Bio for you.

  2. You have completed the survey and are waiting for the YM content team to write your Bio.

  3. You bio has been written and appears on YaleMedicine.org.

Table of Contents

State 1: Before Completing the Survey

If you are new to the Patient Care section or it is your first time editing your profile, the YaleMedicine.org Bio section will appear as an empty survey:

The Yale Medicine Bio survey.

Complete the survey so that the YM content team can begin working with you to craft a custom Biography for your Yale Medicine website.

  1. In the first field, you can expand on your specialty or expertise

    • For example, you could enter “internal medicine - endocrinology - weight loss” or “neurology - pediatric - epiliepsy”

  2. The second option asks you to search for your top clinical keywords and add up to 5 conditions (or types of conditions) for which you most commonly see patients.

    • To add keywords, click Add New... and start typing in the keyword.

    • Select the right keyword, and click Add

    • Once they appear in the display, please move these terms around to rank them in order of importance to you.

  3. If you cannot find the keyword you want, you can suggest new keywords in the next field by clicking Add New... and adding the keyword of your choice.

    • The keyword you suggest will be reviewed.

    • It will either be converted to an existing word in the system or added as a new keyword.

  4. The next 4 fields are additional questions you can fill out to give the YM content team a sense of who you are as a doctor.

    • Patients and prospective patients enjoy knowing a bit about a physician, beyond specialty.

    • This is optional but answering these questions will provide information the YM content team can use to craft your patient-facing biography for the Yale Medicine website.

    • Answer in full sentences so that they can better incorporate the information into your biography.

Once you are done filling out the survey and reviewing the rest of the information on the Patient Care page, you can click I Have Reviewed my Patient Care Information at the bottom of the page to let the YM content team know they can start working on your Yale Medicine profile.

When the information has been submitted, the survey will look different in the Patient Care page, which is covered in the next section of these instructions.

State 2: After Completing the Survey, Before It Has Been Added to the Yale Medicine Website

After you complete the survey, the YM content team will get to work on a Biography for your Yale Medicine website. While that is happening, the Patient Care section of your profile will look a little different:

You cannot directly edit the bio in between submitting it and it being created.

You’ll notice the survey can no longer be directly edited. It also now shows a message at the top (highlighted above in yellow).

  • The YM content team is working on creating the bio, and will reach out to you.

  • If you need to edit or update the information in the completed survey, email ym.content@yale.edu.

Once the Bio has been created, the YaleMedicine.org Bio will again change, which is covered in the next section of these instructions.

State 3: The Bio is Finished and Appears on Yale Medicine

After the YM content team has had a chance to work with you on your specific biography and has written it, the YaleMedicine.org Bio section in the Profile System will change again and look like this:

The completed bio appears in the Patient Care section.

You can not directly edit this bio, but you can request an edit by emailing the Yale Medicine content team at ym.content@yale.edu.

Additionally, this Bio will appear just under the header of your profile on YaleMedicine.org:

A biography on the Yale Medicine website.
