For a multitude of reasons, an event might need to be cancelled. If that happens, it should not be deleted altogether in the Profile System. Instead, the better option is to change the Status of the Event to Cancelled.

You can delete an event altogether, which will be described at the end of these instructions.

Events should not be deleted unless they are incorrect or need to be completely removed from the web.

The following instructions provide information on cancelling an event or deleting it altogether.

Table of Contents

Navigating to the Event

To start deleting or removing an event from a website:

  1. Visit https://profile.yale.edu

  2. Log in with your NetID and password.

  3. Click Calendar in the navigation.

This will take you to the Update and Edit Events page, where you can find the article with the filter options or by scrolling through the list.

Cancelling an Event

Once you find the event in the Update and Edit Events page, click on it to edit it, and you will be taken to the Publish Info tab of the event, as it has already been created (shown below):

Click the Event Info tab (highlighted in yellow above), and you will be taken to the Event Information section (shown below):

Use the Event Status drop down menu (highlighted in yellow above) and choose Cancelled. Once you change the Status, Save the event.

The screenshot below shows what a cancelled event will look like in the list of Events on the Update and Edit Events page:

Cancelled Events appear in a list with the red Cancelled status (yellow).

Additionally, Cancelled Events still show up on websites in the Calendar (shown below), which is good because people can see that an event has been cancelled, as opposed to it just disappearing.

Deleting an Event

Again, an event rarely should be deleted altogether. Deleting an event will remove it from every event listing it appears on, not just your website. However, if it was made in error and you have to delete it, start by clicking on the Event or the calendar/edit icon from the Update and Edit News page.

Since the event has already been created, you will be taken to the final step of the workflow for adding an Event: Publish Settings.

  • You can use the red Delete button in the bottom right of the article workflow to delete the article (highlighted in yellow below).

Remember, if you delete an article outright, you are deleting it for everyone. If you just want to cancel it, refer to the previous section of these instructions.
