Now that you've learned some general features of Beatrix (see https://ysmweb.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/createpage.action?spaceKey=HELP&title=Introduction%20to%20Beatrix%20CMSSDL%20Beatrix%20CMS%20Basics and https://ysmweb.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/createpage.action?spaceKey=HELP&title=Introduction%20to%20Beatrix%20CMSNavigating%20SDL%20Web for more), you can begin to think about how to organize and build your website, with the instructions below.

The way Pages and Directories are organized in the pages folder will determine how users navigate your site.

What You Will Learn

  • How to edit the navigation of your site.

  • How to create a directory.

Directories

Directories are folders within the Pages which contain individual pages and can also contain more subnavigational groups. The navigation of your site will be determined by the hierarchy of folders and the pages within them.

The Pages located in the top level of the Pages folder represent the main navigation items for your site.

  • The main navigation will be present across the top of every page of your site, so it should represent the primary categories of content visitors to your site will be looking for.

  • For example, the pages (About Us, Division of Bioimaging Sciences, Division of Clinical Radiology, Education, Patient Care, Faculty & Staff, News & Events) shown below display in the main navigation.

To create a Subdirectory:

  1. Navigate to the location in the Pages folder where you'd like to create a new subnav group.

  2. Using the context navigation, create a new child page.
