By using a Content Summary Template, you can include a brief introductory paragraph from one component/page and feature the same component in full on a separate page.

  • These templates layouts are particularly useful when trying to direct visitors to specific sections of your site.

The following instructions will provide information on how to use Tridion create and insert a summary view of one page onto another page and how to link this summary view to the page that contains the full view.

Inside the Content component schema you want to link to with the Summary, the relevant fields are:

  1. Introduction text for summaries (Not shown in full view)

    • If none of your paragraphs have text that work as an introduction,

  1. Image displays in summary views: Summary Views give you the option to also include an image.

Click on the magnifying glass icon to the right of this field (highlighted in green above), and find the image you want to be displayed with the summary in the Building Blocks folder.

    • Select an image from the Media Library or Upload an image.

This image will only be featured when the component is used as a Content Summary.

Once you are happy with the summary content in the component, click Save and Close in the Home tab of the toolbar (highlighted in blue above) Update.

Adding the Content Summary to a Page

Once you have created or edited the content that you want to link to with a Summary, determine where in your site you want to feature a brief review of this content.

To Publish:

  • If the component item you used is part of a page that has already been published, you can now publish the page that you just inserted the Content Summary template  item into.

  • If this is a new component item that does not exist elsewhere, you must also create a separate page for this component to live in. This page must also be published. To learn how to build a page, see our instructions section for an Introduction to SDL Tridion

Examples of a Content Summary on a Page

The below screenshot is an example of the Content Summary template layout view, as it appears on a page:

You can see the Title of the Content component items (highlighted above in blue) you are linking to, the image uploaded in the Image displays in summary views field, the Introduction text for summaries (highlighted in green above), and the actual link (highlighted in red above).

You can see the Title of the Content component layout (highlighted above in red) you are linking to over the image uploaded in the Image displays in summary views field, and the Introduction text for summaries (highlighted in green above).

In this templatelayout view, if the component you are linking to has a Subtitle, it will appear in the same place as the Title in the Content Summary template layout (highlighted in blue above).
