Research Projects One Pager

Research Projects One Pager

Yale School of Medicine (YSM) has thousands of research projects listed across its 542 websites, yet there is no standardized, structured approach for documenting them. This fragmentation makes it hard to discover new work, understand past achievements, or see how archived projects connect to ongoing efforts. A new Research Project Template will address these challenges, laying the groundwork for structured data and providing a foundation for future enhancements—such as Research Content Mapping (RCM) integration and the Beatrix Copilot for editorial support.

Objective

Introduce a Phase 1 template that captures fundamental details about each research project (e.g., title, objectives, collaborators, funding sources), ensuring consistent data and making projects easier to locate, analyze, and build upon. Over time, as RCM and other tools come online, the template will expand to incorporate automatically linked news stories, events, and related projects.

Key Features (Phase 1)

Research Project Details Page

  • Core Details: Title, scope, key objectives, and basic descriptions.

  • Collaborators & Departments: Principal investigators, co-investigators, departmental affiliations, and any external partnerships.

  • Funding & Grants: Grant numbers, funding entities, and relevant documentation with links to the details pages as these features of T5 come online.

  • Outputs & Publications: Links to publications or results stemming from the project.

  • Structured Data: Ensures each project has metadata fields for easier discovery and potential linking with other YSM initiatives.

  • Archiving: Ability to mark completed projects as archived, preserving historically significant research.

Future phases will add automated links to news and events via RCM integration.

Landing Page

  • A centralized, visually appealing hub on YSM’s main site to showcase the breadth of ongoing and archived projects.

  • Department-, section-, program-, center-, and lab-level filtered views to live on these individual websites to enable targeted exploration.

Implementation & Future Outlook

  • Migration of Existing Content: The Office of Communications will collaborate with departments to move current project details into the new template.

  • RCM & Copilot Integration: As RCM matures, news, events, and related projects will be automatically linked to highlight the continuum of YSM research. Eventually, the Beatrix Copilot will help refine project descriptions for both scientific peers and broader audiences.

Stakeholders & Responsibilities

  • Researchers & Faculty: Provide accurate, up-to-date information on each project; oversee archival status as work concludes

  • Departments, Labs, & Programs: Adopt the new template for local project listings; offer filtered views relevant to their specific audiences.

  • Department Communications Officers: Partner with faculty to craft their content for impact, leveraging the Beatrix Copilot for the school’s voice, style, and search optimization (SEO).

  • Office of Communications: Oversees template design and standards, coordinates the content transition, and manages alignment with T5/RCM initiatives.

  • Product and Engineering Teams: Implement structured data fields, develop the details and landing pages, and ensure future scalability for RCM integration.
