External Security Groups

External security groups are used to manage access to YSM websites for people who do not have Yale NetIDs.

To create and manage an external security group:

  1. In https://beatrix.yale.edu, visit the organization that is most suitable to house the security group

    1. For example, if I was creating a security group to manage access to a secured section of the Surgery website, I would make the security group in the Surgery organization.

  2. In the left navigation, select “User Security Groups”

  3. At the bottom of the page, click +Add New.

  4. Enter a name for the group, this name should be specific but concise

  5. Enter a description for the group, you can add as much detail as you want here to indicate what the group is for.

  6. For “Type,” select “External Users”

  7. To add individual users, click “+ Add New” next to the “Guest Users” heading

    1. Enter the user’s name in the relevant fields

    2. Enter the user’s email in the Email field. This is the email address that will be used for the user’s login so ensure the address is correct.
