External Link Summaries

You can use an External Link Summary item to feature a prominent link to an external website (another YSM website or anywhere else on the web) with a short text introduction and link.

Like regular Content Summaries, External Link Summaries are compatible with any summary or summary grid component template.

These instructions will provide information on how to use Beatrix CMS to create and insert a summary linking to an external site.

Create an External Link Summary

See Beatrix CMS Basics for information on creating elements from Pages or the Content Folder.

There are some important fields to fill out when creating an External Link Summary component:

  1. Type in the appropriate Name for the component.

  2. Select External Link Summary from the Schema drop down menu.

  3. Enter the Title of the External Link that you want to appear in the Summary.

  4. Use the Introduction text field to write a short summary of the website or page you are linking to.

  5. External URL: Enter the address you would like the summary to direct users to.

  6. Image to display in summary: This field allows you to add an image that will appear in the Summary.

    • You can only use an Image that you have added or selected from the Media Library. See the Images and Image Galleries section of instructions.

    • Select the image you want to include in the Summary and click Add to add it to the External Link item.

Click Update and you are ready to add it to a page, or if you are on the page, Publish.

Adding the External Link Summary to a Page

  1. Select one of the following templates from the Layout View dropdown menu:

    • Content Summary

    • Content Summary with Overlay

    • Content Summary Small Image

    • Content Summary Multicolumn

    • Carousel of Linked Content

  2. Click Add to add the component to your page, then click Close to return to the page.

  3. Update the page, and you are ready to Publish.

Examples of External Link Summaries on a Page

The below screenshot is an example of both the Content Summary and Content Summary with Overlaytemplates, as they appear on a page:

The only different in appearance between an External Link Summary and a regular Content Summary is the link, which has a different icon (highlighted in green above).

The other display option for an External Link Summary is the Content Summary Small Image template, highlighted in green below:

The Content Summary Small Image template uses a square crop for the images.
