The News Article Highlight component allows you to display and highlight a single News Article in a page on Tridion.

As part of the Profile System, the News Module pulls information from a database outside Tridion to display content on your site.

For information about adding and editing individual news items in the Profile System, please see the section of instructions.

 

The following instructions provide information on creating News Article Highlights in Tridion using Profile System data.

Creating a News Article Highlight Component

The first step in creating a News Article Highlight is to create a News Article Highlight component.

Click New Component (blue) to begin creating a News Article Highlight component.

 

In the Building Blocks folder of your respective website, click New Component (highlighted in blue above) in the Create tab (highlighted in yellow above) of the navigation bar.

You will be taken to a new page for creating the component (shown below):

  1. Enter an appropriate Name for your component.

  2. Choose News Article Highlight from the Schema drop down menu (highlighted in yellow above).

  3. Article ID you would like to highlight: Enter the Article ID of the News Article you would like to highlight.

    • You can find the Article ID in the Profile System.

      • Click News in the top navigation, and you will be taken to the Suggested News page.

      • Click Update and Edit News in the left navigation.

      • Find the article in the list (you can use the filters to make it easier to find).

      • Click on the article or the pencil/edit icon to the right of the article to visit the editing workflow for the article.

      • The ID you need is the 5 digit number in the URL for the article.

        • If the URL is “profile.yale.edu/News/19794/NewsEditor/Edit#publish-settings”, the ID is 19794.

Once you have entered the Article ID, Save and Close the component (highlighted in blue above) and you are ready to add it to a page.

 

Adding the News Article Highlight Component to a Page

After creating the News Article Highlight component, you can add the component to a page.

  1. Navigate in the Root folder to the page you'd like to add a News Article Highlight to and double-click to open the page.

  2. In the window that opens, click the Component Presentations tab.

  3. Click Insert at the bottom left of the page window.

  4. Browse to the News Article Highlight component you created and click to select it.

  5. From the Component Template dropdown, select the News Article Highlight template.

  6. Click the Insert button at the bottom right, then the Close button.

  7. Save and Close the page, then you are ready to publish.

There are some things to notice about the News Article Highlight (highlighted in yellow above).

  1. The photo used is the News Thumbnail.

  2. The highlight shows the Date the article was Published, followed by the Title and Article Summary.

  3. The Read more takes you to the full article on a different page.
