News Main Listing

When you create a News Listing component and go to insert it on to a page in Tridion, you have several options for displaying the list of articles.

This page provides examples and further explanation of the News Main Listing template.

Table of Contents

Description

The News Main Listing template displays the articles in one full-page column, with one article featured at the top of the list with a highlighted visual style.

  • If you have set a Featured Article (explained in the next section of these instructions), this article will appear in the top spot.

  • If not, the most recent article will be featured.

The rest of the articles are listed below the featured article and sorted by date, starting with the most recent.

  • These articles also show thumbnail photos, if they have been attached to the article.

  • This template also allows you to filter the articles by different date ranges and search for articles in the listing.

Use this template if the main purpose of the page is the news feed, or if you want the visitor to be able to sort or search through the articles.

Featured Articles

You have the ability to designate an article in the Profile System as the Featured Article for an organization.

  • This is important particularly with News Listings, because it effects the way they display, as you’ll see in the examples later in these instructions.

To Feature an article.

  1. Visit https://profile.yale.edu

  2. Log in with your NetID and password.

  3. Click News in the navigation.

  4. Click Update and Edit News in the left navigation menu.

  5. Using the Select Organization drop down menu (highlighted in yellow below), filter the list to the one organization you want to choose the Featured Article for.

  6. Select the star icon to the right of the article (highlighted in blue below) to set that article as the Featured Article.

A News Main Listing on a page.

There are a few things to notice about a News Main Listing as it appears on a page.

  1. If the News Main Listing is the only component on a page, the text from the Title to display above listing field from creating the component will appear as the page title (highlighted in blue above).

  2. You can filter the articles by different date ranges or search the listing for an article at the top of the listing (highlighted in green above).

  3. If you designated a Featured Article, it will appear in the top spot of the listing, with a more prominent format (highlighted in yellow above).

    • If you did not set a Featured Article, this spot will be taken by the most recent article in the listing.

  4. Articles appear with a picture (if there is a thumbnail attached to the article), the title, the date, an article summary, and a source (for articles).

  5. The rest of the articles will appear under the featured spot, sorted by date, starting with the most recent articles (highlighted in red above).

    • The articles in the screenshot above do not have Thumbnails attached, so there is no photo in the listing.

    • If an article has a thumbnail attached, it will appear to the left of the article information, as shown below.

  6. At the bottom of the listing, you can continue on to more articles with the arrows and page numbers (highlighted in yellow below).
