Creating a News Listing in Tridion
Many departments want to publicize their news to the public, whether patients or prospective students/postdoc fellows. Tridion offers news components that create clean, sortable layouts for displaying news on the web.
As part of the Profile System, the News Module pulls information from a database outside Tridion to display content on your site.

The following instructions provide information on creating News Listings in Tridion using Profile System data.

Creating the News Listing Component
The first step in creating a News Listing is to create a News Listing component.
Click New Component
(blue) to begin creating a News Listing component.
In the Building Blocks folder of your respective website, click New Component
(highlighted in blue above) in the Create tab (highlighted in yellow above) of the navigation bar.
You will be taken to a new page for creating the component (shown below):

Enter an appropriate Name for your component.
Choose
News Listing
from the Schema drop down menu (highlighted in yellow above).Title to display above listing: Enter the Title you want to appear above the listing.
Org ID: Enter the appropriate 6-digit organization ID from the profile system; this determines which organization’s news will display in the listing.
You can find an Organization ID in the profile system.
Click on the
Organizations
tab in the top navigation.Find the organization in the list or use the Filter field to narrow the list.
Click the pencil/edit icon to the right of the organization.
You can find the ID under Organization ID in the top-right corner of the Information section.
Keywords: In most cases, leave this blank. For advanced users, see News Listings.
Items to display in widgets: Number of articles which will display when component is using a widget template.
When you are satisfied with your information, Save and Close
the component (highlighted in blue above), and you are ready to add it to a page.
Adding the News Listing Component to a Page
After creating the News Listing component, you can add the component to a page.
Navigate in the Root folder to the page you'd like to add a News Listing to and double-click to open the page.
In the window that opens, click the
Component Presentations
tab.Click
Insert
at the bottom left of the page window.Browse to the News Listing component you created and click to select it.
From the Component Template dropdown, select one of the following templates (visit the linked pages for examples):
Use this template if the main purpose of the page is the news feed, or if you want the visitor to be able to sort or search through the articles.
Use this template if you want to show a large number of articles on a page, without taking up too much space.
Use this template if you want to show a moderate number of articles on a page, without taking up too much space.
Use this template if you want to show a small number of articles on a page, without taking up too much space.
News Widget First Item Highlight
Use this template if you want to highlight an article and show a moderate amount of other articles, without taking up as much space as the News Main Listing template.
News Widget Single Column No Image
Use this template if you want to show a simple list of news articles, without pictures.
Click the
Insert
button at the bottom right, then theClose
button.Save and Close
the page, then you are ready to publish.
