Headshots

A profile’s headshot is the main profile image that appears in the header and as the preview image that displays when the profile is included in lists.

In the Headshots section, you can manage a profile’s headshots. All previously submitted headshots are displayed in the section, along with the Approval Status and Updated Date of the image. The image displaying the status Accepted - Current is the one that is displaying as the profile’s headshot image.

To submit the first headshot or an updated one, click Add New. The YSM Photo team will review each headshot submission and either accept or reject it based on their guidelines for web profile photos.

If you would lik set up an appointment to have the YSM Photo team, take an official headshot , please review the photoshoot information on MyYSM.

Profile banner image

The header banner is an opportunity to personalize your profile with an impactful image that appears front and center. Some ideal types of images for banners are scientific imagery or photos that are directly relevant to your work at Yale. Because web profiles are published on a Yale website, there is an approval process before your image appears on the web.

Please keep in mind that YSM Website Guidelines do apply to profiles and profile images.

Available Images

The image at the top of your profile is a banner shape — wide and not very tall. The images should be work-related — such as images of your research or you lecturing, and you should have rights to post the image online. It can, therefore, be challenging to find a good image to fill this space. If you think the Office of Communications might have some photographs from a shoot, email ysm.editor@yale.edu and we'll go look for it! In addition:

Finding Your Own Image

The images should be related to your work at Yale, and you should have rights to post the image online. There are two options, short and tall.

Short: The aspect ratio is 36x5, and the image should be at least 1,000 pixels wide.

The short banner is conducive to imagery that is more abstract, such as microscopy or data visualizations, rather than photographs of people.

Tall: The aspect ratio is 36x11, and the image should be at least 1,000 pixels wide.

The tall banner can include people, but you'll want everyone's face to be included in the image (don't cut off anyone's eyes or mouth!). The best way to do this is make sure everyone's heads are all lined up, so no one is shorter or taller than the others.

Header Cards

Header Cards are intended to emphasize the areas of the profile that are most important to the person and guide users to the corresponding sections for more information. There are many options in configuring the Header Cards that appear in the header (highlighted in yellow below).

Selecting header cards for your profile

Header Cards display at the top of your profile to allow you to highlight what you consider the most important aspects of your work. These cards often link to more detailed information in the corresponding section of your profile.

This is an example of Static Header Cards

Select style: static or carousel

The card section can be configured in one of two ways:

  • Static: 1-3 cards are displayed and any combination can be chosen.

  • Carousel: 1-4 card categories can be chosen, each displaying 1-3 cards in a carousel that users can scroll through.

To learn more about configuring this section, please review this video on Header Cards.

Steps for Static Header cards:

  1. Click “Add new card” or the “Edit cards” button to start customizing.

  2. Choose up to 3 cards from any category by clicking the toggle button. (blue indicates it displays; red indicates it does not)

  3. If you have the maximum 3 cards but want to change one, first remove one by clicking on the toggle.

  4. Click the “Update button”

  5. Click the Preview button to see how the page will look.

Some cards may indicate that they have “No data.” If you select any of these cards, they will not appear on your web profile until there is information to display from your profile detail sections.

Steps for Carousel Header cards:

  1. Use the toggles under “Available Card Categories” to choose which card categories will appear.

  2. Each time you enable a category, you will be prompted to select the cards you want to appear in that category.

  3. Each category must have at least one card to appear on your web profile. You can select up to 4 categories.

  4. Click a selected category to change the cards that will appear on that section of the carousel.

  5. Drag and drop them to sort them in the order you’d like them to appear on your profile.

  6. Click the “Update button”

  7. Click the Preview button to see how the page will look.

Header card options for a carousel style

Below are the different options for header cards. They are sorted into the categories they can be displayed in if the user chooses the Carousel option.

Please note:

There may be a delay of a few minutes between when you make changes in Beatrix and when they appear on the preview page. If you don’t see your changes right away, try waiting a couple of minutes and then refreshing the page in your web browser.

Reordering Sections and Section Headers in your Profile

There are 7 sections that can display on the YSM profile:

  • About

  • Research

  • Achievements

  • Teaching

  • Clinical Care

  • Links and Media

  • Get in Touch

These sections can be re-ordered by dragging them into position on the list, and each section has a customizable header. If a section has no content, or has been set to not display, it will not show up on the public profile.

For more information please review this video on profile sections.
