Teaching and Mentoring

Beatrix.yale.edu allows you to manage various types of information associated with a person’s profile.

The following instructions will explain how to manage and edit the Teaching and Mentoring activities of a person. 

To begin managing the Teaching and Mentoring information:

  1. Visit https://beatrix.yale.edu

  2. Log in with your NetID and password

  3. Click People in the navigation at the top of the page.

  4. Find and select the profile you want to edit (see Edit a Profile for more information).

  5. Click Career in the navigation.

Teaching

You can use the Teaching section to identify and list courses taught by you or the person whose profile you are editing.

 


Adding a course to the Teaching section

  1. Click Add New from the Teaching section of the Career page.

  2. Use the search bar in the Course Title field to search for the name of the course.

    • Courses are added in the Beatrix Admin by the Web Services team

    • They are generally listed with their code followed by the title, i.e. “MCDB 370: Biotechnology”

    • If you do not see your course, click Request to add a new course and fill out the form to make sure the Web Services team has all the information they need to add it. The team will be in touch once they have added it.

    • Once you have selected a course, the information will auto populate into the other fields.

  3. Choose one of the options in the Role drop down to indicate your role in teaching the course.

  4. Indicate your Average Instructional Hours per Year

  5. Choose a Start Date, and if you are no longer teaching the class, an End Date

    • If you are still teaching the class, do not add an End Date

  6. Click Add to save the entry to your profile

Only the current courses will display, and they will appear in the Teaching & Mentoring section of the profile (highlighted in yellow below):



Past courses will not display on the profile, but can be added to Beatrix for record keeping purposes or for use on CVs.

Mentoring

In the Mentoring section, you can designate who the person is willing to mentor and who their current and former mentees are.

In the Willing and Available to Mentor section, you can select which people you are open to mentoring from the following groups:

  • Faculty

  • Students

  • Clinical Fellows

  • Clinicians

  • Residents

  • Postdoctoral Researchers

If you select any of these options, they will be listed in the Teaching & Mentoring section of the profile (highlighted in yellow below):



 

You can also display specific people who are currently mentees and people you have mentored in the past.



  1. In the Trainee Name field, use the radio option to choose whether the person is a Yale Person or an External Person.

  2. In the field that appears below:

    • If you chose Yale Person, use the search bar to find and select the profile of the Yale mentee.

    • If you chose External Person, type the name of the external mentee.

  3. In the Trainee Position field, choose one of the options in the drop down menu to designate the position of the mentee during the mentorship.

  4. Choose a Start Year and an End Year

    • If you are still mentoring and do not know when it will be complete, do not choose an End Year

  5. If there is a particular project or thesis at the center of the mentorship, enter a description of it in the Research/Thesis Project field. This is not required.

  6. If the mentee has gone on to a different position that you want to highlight, enter it into the Current Position field. This is not required.

  7. Click Add to save the Mentee and open additional options.

  8. In the Publications, Presentations and Awards & Honors sections, you can add supplemental content that is related to the mentorship in any of those categories.

    • Clicking + Add from your... in each of the sections allows you to choose existing entries from the Publications, Professional Activity, and Honors sections respectively.

    • Clicking + Add a mentee... in each of the sections allows you to add new content directly related to the mentorship for each of the sections

Mentees will be displayed in the Teaching and Mentoring section of the profile (yellow below), sorted by Start Date of the mentorship, starting with the most recent:
