Research

Beatrix.yale.edu allows you to manage various types of information associated with a person’s profile.

The following instructions will explain how to manage and edit the Research information of a person.

To begin managing the Research focus and history on a profile:

  1. Visit http://Beatrix.yale.edu

  2. Log in with your NetID and password

  3. Click People in the navigation at the top of the page.

  4. Find and select the profile you want to edit (see for more information).

  5. Click the Research button in the navigation on the left side of the page.

Brief Research Summary

The first section of the Research page is a brief Summary of the person’s research background, interests, and achievements:

  • This area should be 10 sentences or fewer.

  • You have the opportunity to elaborate on the research in the next section.

There are many options for formatting the text you enter, and if you hover your mouse over the icons at the top of the field, you will see what each option is for.

If you copy and paste from another place, the next may be stripped of some of its formatting.

 

Extensive Research Description

This field is for a more detailed description and history of a person’s research. You can cover the entire trajectory of the research, current and past.

Please limit the entry to 1500 words.

 

Research Summary and Description on a Profile

Both the Brief Summary and Extensive Description of Research populate in the Research & Publications page of the website for a profile, shown below:

To see the Research in action, use the navigation to go to Research & Publications (highlighted in yellow above).

The Brief Research Summary (highlighted in green above) and Extensive Research Description (highlighted in red above) populate in this section of a profile website.

 

Research Interests

This section allows you to tag the profile with Research keywords. There are two types of Research Interests keywords utilized on YSM and YSPH sites: Public Health and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH).

Public Health Keywords

This section allows you to tag the profile with Research keywords that are specifically related to public health.

  • As well as displaying on the profile, these keywords are used to sort profiles based on Public Health research interests.

To add Public Health Research Interests, click the Add New... button (shown below).



  • Begin typing your interest into the search bar

  • Select the interest from the suggested list that appears.

Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) Keywords

  • The keywords are based on the NIH’s MeSH keyword list.

  • They display on the profile and are used to sort profiles based on medical research interests.

To add a new medical Research Interests keyword, click Add New... and the following section will pop up:


Click Add New to add a new MeSH Research Interest to a profile.

You can add a medical Research Interests in 2 ways:

  1. Enter the interest in the search bar and choose from the suggested options.

    • Click Add to add the keyword to the profile, and it will populate to the list above.

  2. Using the category-based keyword tree:

    • A sideways arrow (highlighted in yellow below) indicates a category that you can click on to expand and show the sub categories.

    • Once expanded, the arrow will change to downward facing and reveal the sub-categories (highlighted in blue below).

    • Use the + icon (highlighted in green below) to add the keyword, and it will populate to the list above.



You can also click on the X next to the added keywords (highlighted in red above) to remove them from the profile.

Like the Brief Summary and Extensive Description of Research, these Research Interests populate in the Research & Publications page of the website for a profile, shown below:



Research Images

This section allows you to upload an image that illustrates your research, such as microscopy, image scans, or photographs.

  • Jpg, jpeg, and png files are acceptable.

  • The recommended size is at least 1,200 pixels.

  • The max file size is 3MB.

Please do not include any images that fit the following descriptions:

  • Images depicting animals

  • Images for which you do not retain copyright or have rights to publish

  • Images of patients or PHI for which you do not have a signed HIPAA media release form.

The image you upload will populate in the Research & Publications section if your profile, shown below:
