Patient Care Settings

Within the Patient Care section of the Profile tab of Beatrix (https://beatrix.yale.edu/), there are a few sections where you can manage Patient Care Settings.

The following instructions will provide help for managing the Patient Care Settings information associated with a profile.

Because Patient Care information is more relevant to a doctor’s clinical practice, it will appear mostly in the profile on the Yale Medicine website (yalemedicine.org) as opposed to the more academic profile on the Yale School of Medicine website (medicine.yale.edu).

These instructions assume you have navigated to the Patient Care section.

For information on how to navigate to the Patient Care section, please visit these instructions:

Patient Interactions

The Patient Interactions section is a list of questions about a doctor’s Patient Care information and preferences.

This section is very important, because the first question determines whether a person’s profile appears on the Yale Medicine website at all (highlighted in yellow below):

The questions in the Patient Interactions section (above) may have downstream impact, as described below.

  1. Do you provide direct patient care and/or clinical services related to patients?

    • This question controls whether the specialist appears on the Yale Medicine website.

    • Selecting No will prevent the person from appearing on the site at all.

    • Selecting Yes will allow the person to display on relevant content.

  2. Do you see patients by appointment?

    • This question impacts a doctors overall relevance in the Clinical Content Mapping (CCM) system and affects the "Book Appointment" profile treatment.

    • If Yes is selected, the person will appear more prominently on relevant articles.

    • A specialist who has clicked No will be less prominently displayed on fact sheets and news articles.

    • The primary reason for this is that the website is geared towards connecting patients with specialists with whom they can make an appointment.

    • A selection of Yes is one of the basic requirements for the "Book Appointment" visual treatment.

  3. Accepting new patients?

    • May affect whether the specialist is more or less prominently displayed in related content through CCM.

    • Generally, specialists who are accepting new patients are more highly ranked to better help patients connect with available providers.

  4. Perform inpatient consults?

    • This clarifies whether a specialist provides inpatient consults or only sees patients through the regular appointment process.

  5. Accept referrals?

    • Specifies how referrals are accepted.

    • Use the drop-down menu to select the appropriate choice.

  6. Age Groups Treated

    • Affects on which type of articles the specialist is displayed through CCM.

    • In addition, it impacts search results if a patient uses the new search wizard.

    • Use the check-boxes to specify the age groups a doctor treats.

  7. Available via MyChart?

    • Will be used in the future.

  8. Uses Epic Open Scheduler?

    • Will be used in the future.

These answers, as discussed above, have an effect on the Yale Medicine website profile for a doctor:

The answers to the above questions effect the data in the header of a doctor’s Yale Medicine profile.

  • Because we selected Yes for Do you see patients by appointment? there is the button for Book Appointment (highlighted in yellow above).

  • The answers for Accepting new patients? (highlighted in blue above), Accepts referrals? (highlighted in green above), and Age Groups Treated (highlighted in red above) also appear in the header.
